Pool Maintenance Tips for Home Owners
Melbourne plays host to tens of thousands of home owners and with an increasing number considering installing pools within their gardens – knowing how to maintain these features can be a top priority. For those that are brand new to the concept, here are a few pool maintenance tips from that all owners should know.
Water will stagnate
All water, whether it’s in a bath or a pool, will stagnate if allowed to sit untreated over a certain amount of time (often 2 weeks in hot weather). Minimising the chance of stagnation can help to ensure that your pool water stays clean and fresh and to do so, chloride tablets are recommended to keep mosquitoes from laying eggs. Furthermore, antibacterial chemicals are recommended such as algaecides to keep the water clean and clear.
Pumps are a necessity
Pool pumps aren’t just responsible for keeping the water moving – they are there to filter out impurities and keep the consistency fresh and clear. Stronger pumps are recommended as they can do a better job at cleaning a swimming pool; and it’s also possible to purchase cleaning accessories that can be fitted to a suction pump and then used to sweep across the bottom of the pool to rid it of hard to reach dirt and debris.
Pool covers can be very beneficial
It’s not often that you will be climbing into your pool during the winter (unless it’s heated of course). In these cases, the water can be easy to forget about. The risk of stagnating will still be present and to avoid these types of concerns pool covers can be very useful. Some are made from material and can be positioned to cover the entire length of the pool, while others are made from heavy duty PVC and can be used to block all types of access; from pets, dirt and debris in equal measure.
